Viola lessons: common questions
What is the difference between a violin and a viola?
The viola is slightly larger than the violin and tuned five notes lower, which gives it a deeper, warmer sound. Viola music is written mainly in the alto clef.
Can I switch from violin to viola?
Yes, and many players do. Your violin technique carries over, and Natalia, who trained in both instruments, will help you with the alto clef and the viola’s larger size.
Can children learn the viola?
Yes. Violas come in smaller sizes, so children can start on an instrument that fits them. Natalia can advise on the right size at the trial lesson.
How much do viola lessons cost in Swindon?
Lessons at Natalia’s home in Swindon cost £20 for 30 minutes, £29 for 45 minutes and £38 for 60 minutes. Lessons at your home cost £5 more, and online lessons start at £18. Your first 20-minute viola trial lesson is free.
